Built for Tight SpacesSpecially designed to get into those confined areas other saws simply can't reach, the Hatchet is the most compact and unique reciprocating saw on the market. Only 13-1/2 inches when fully pivoted, it fits between 16-inch on-center studs, as well as between rafters and joists. And its 3/4-inch stroke length makes the Hatchet ideal for pipe cutting or other types of cuts in tight spaces.
Saves Time and Effort
Powerful and efficient, the Hatchet represents the next level in reciprocating saws. The 7.5-amp Milwaukee motor ensures robust performance, while the 3,000-spm orbital cutting mechanism makes quick work of tough jobs.
Blade changes are equally quick thanks to the heavy-duty steel Quik-Lok blade clamp system (accepts standard 1/2-inch shank Sawzall blades), which allows for easy blade changes without a hex key. For added convenience and flexibility, blades can be clamped upside down.
Durable for Longer Life
Built to last and able to tackle rough-and-tough job conditions, the Hatchet features a steel connecting rod and steel gear. Steel lends overall strength to the cutting mechanism and allows the tool to withstand countless impacts for a longer life.
Optimum Control and Precision
The Hatchet puts reliable control and precision right in the palm of your hand. Variable speed means you can select the correct speed for the job, and a cushion-grip handle means you'll get a firm hold. This unit is also counter-balanced for smooth operation with less vibration.
Tool-Free Adjustments
Designed for ease of use, the Hatchet includes a patented keyless shoe-release lever that allows for tool-free adjustments and efficient use of the blade and the depth-of-cut control. Its design also boasts a felt seal and no-countersunk area where the spindle exits the gear case. This results in less contamination and no pooling of water, making the Hatchet perfect for plumbers who are concerned about rust.
The 6524-21 is backed by a five-year warranty.

From the Manufacturer
The Hatchet was 'built for tight spaces.' It features a six-position pivoting handle, making it the most compact, unique, reciprocating saw on the market. Only 13-1/2 inches when fully pivoted, the Hatchet easily fits between 16-inch on-center studs and between rafters and joists. This tool is designed to get into those confined areas that no other saw can reach! A 3/4-inch stroke length makes this tool ideal for cutting in tight spaces. The 7.5 amp Milwaukee-built motor provides the quality and durability you've come to expect from Milwaukee Sawzall reciprocating saws. At a superfast 3,000 strokes per minute, and with aggressive orbital cutting action, the 6524-21 gets the job done quickly and efficiently. The Quik-Lok blade clamp makes changing blades fast and easy, and the Quik-Lok cord allows for easy field replacement. Not only is the Hatchet fast, but it's comfortable to use with a cushion grip handle for comfortable superior gripping. It's also counter-balanced for smoother operation and less vibration. The 6524-21 includes the tool with a 10-foot, two-wire Quik-Lok cord, two Super Sawzall
Yeah but
Please don't get me wrong, I thought this the cat's meow when I first started using it; however, within a day I found that it tends to overheat if used extensively. It doesn't shut down due to the heat, but becomes difficult to hold with two hands. It also vibrates quite a bit, which encourages blisters. I still enjoy the product. But selectively. So, if you're just working around the house, don't want the bigger one, or need to get into a particularly tight spot, then go for it. It's my second choice though, behind the standard 11 amp. I need durability, power, and forgiveness, not something that's going to jump all over, or heat my hand when I need to grab the body.
This saw is the BOMB!!!
Milwaukee being the king of reciprocating saws has done it again! The Hatchet is Fantastic! This tool has all the power and comfort to tackle the jobs its bigger brothers can. Best of all, the tool is light and compact, along with an adjustable handle!
Appropriately named the Hatchet, I found this tool is comfortably held with the handle fully extended where the downward pressure from my hands provide the most support and comfort much like the way you would hold the wooden handle on a real hatchet...I'll never use a D-Handle reciprocating saw again! It's that good! Between studs, upside down or just for demolition this saw has what it takes. Milwaukee added a two finger trigger switch and their Quik-Loc cord to complete this package. The only feature I wish they included is a separate variable speed dial like the ones found on their Super Sawzalls. But that's just a minor shortcoming, since speed is easily maintained with the hefty trigger switch. The tool-less blade clamp is the best in the industry.
Milwaukee even built the plastic blow molded case with "Heavy Duty" in mind! They must be the only company to integrate metal latching clasps since converting to cheaper plastic cases over metal ones. If you're looking for a saw that's light, comfortable and built to last...seriously consider the Milwaukee Hatchet! I got mine for Christmas and this thing also cuts Noble Firs like butter!
great Idea
I have used this saw for a few months now. As another reviewer mentioned this new handle feels more natural to hold and the way it folds down makes it really compact and with its 3/4 inch stroke its ideal for tight spaces. The quik change blade system is better than any I've used in the past(portercable, dewalt)its counter balanced mechanism works great very little vibration and plenty of power. I highly recommend this tool but for certain jobs I perfer a recepricating saw with more amps and a longer stroke [1"1/8 to 1"1/4]they are more aggressive not to say that this saw cant hold its own this is a great saw.2005 this is the last thing I will ever buy from amazon as there customer service is now being outsourced and they are snotty arogent and useless too bad there customer service was the best on the planet
